Allendale Junior Football Tournament 21 August 2014
There were four pitches in use throughout the day. To cope with car parking and catering the U11’s and U8’s were in the morning and the U9s and U10’s in the afternoon. There were 23 teams participating from clubs within the Tyne Valley which equates to about 230 players. Most players brought along parents, grandparents, brother and sisters to cheers them on and the noise was so loud that the coaches struggled to get themselves heard. There must have been around 450-500 supporters throughout the day.
The whole event was organised by club volunteers and supported by local organisations. Catering was organised by the players mums and dads. Bacon was supplied at cost from WMH butchers in Allendale and all the bread from Warburton’s via the Allendale co-op was provided Free! Prizes for the raffle were donated by Greggs Sports Hexham, The Crown pub Catton, Allendale Mill Tandoori and The NFU in Hexham.
Generous Sponsorship from The Allendale Co-op enabled trophies and medals to be awarded to the winners and runners up of each age group .These were presented by CO-OP member Cath Reed as Neville Pringle, Manager of Allendale Co-op, was unfortunately on Holiday.
The results were:
U8 Winners : Prudhoe 3
U8 Runners up : Hexham 2.
U9 Winners : Newcastle 2
U9 Runners up : Hexham Rapid 1
U10 Winners : Throckley 3
U10 Runners up : Prudhoe 0
U11 Winners : Newcastle 6
U11 Runners up : Prudhoe 0
Overall the event raised £1075.00 which will be spent on equipment and development to further improve the overall sporting experience and opportunities for the children of the Allen Valleys.
Finally, I would personally like to add my thanks to the Co-op and Warburton’s for their continued support of this primary fundraiser for Allendale Football club.
Best regards, Alan Best, Chairman Allendale Football Club
