We love to feed our garden birds – here are our top tips.
Feed all Year round
Our garden birds face challenges throughout the year and the RSPB recommends feeding all year round.
- In spring – to support nesting birds
- In summer – to help when dry ground can make finding food hard
- In Autumn – to help birds get their bodies ready for winter
- In Winter – to help birds survive the colder weather and harsh conditions
Feed a wide variety of foods
This will encourage lots of visitors to your feeder.
- Fruit, including apples, pears and soft fruits
- Table scraps – potatoes, pasta, cheese and uncooked, unsalted bacon rinds
- Fat and suet balls – but not in nets
- Grains and seeds – including oats, nyger, and sunflower seeds
- Fresh unsalted peanuts
- Mealworms and Waxworms
Provide fresh water
Keep the area clean
Dirty bowls and feeders spread diseas.
- Water bowls should be cleaned every time they are filled
- Feeders should be cleaned weekly
- Rotating the feeding areas also prevent the spread of disease
We have several bird feeders in stock and can order in a range of feeding stations from Home Hardware.
We also stock a range of bird foods in handy size packs or we can supply full sacks.
Just ask at the office.
